NATIONS AND LANDS
OF WEST AZOTH

Separated by the great Black Mountains from East Azoth, the western part of the continent is for the most part, uncharted. It is a land full of many legends and myths and few seek to adventure into its wilds. Although some of the area has been settled and sightings of different races have been observed on the far western side, little argument is given that the land contains nothing more than danger and perils.

A bit of the folklore explains the reservations that the civilized races have. It is believed that a vast amount of West Azoth was (and still is) the land of the Dragons. The two great dragon races are, the Red and the Black, were locked in pitched combat for centuries with each trying to control the land and skies. From the Spice Mountains were the Red Dragons led by Scorch. The color red obtained by their dependency of the spice that filled the caverns of the mountains. Within the many caves of the Black Mountains were the Black Dragons and their leader, Skragg. It is believed that the desolate land between the two mountains ranges was the great battle field of the Dragon wars and is destroyed by the fire breathing dragons. All that remain are the volcanoes and lava covered land which serve as a neutral division between the two dragon races.

QUAIWAIN
On the southern shore resting on the Naldonian Sea are the lands that are known to those of East Azoth. Qaiwain is the home of the great centaur race who have recently been under the conversion of Othariss. Many of the centaurs now venture into the civilized lands. These beings were once thought to only to be a myth, their discovery proved otherwise. The centaur history talks of the days when the centaurs use to roam freely throughout the field of Azoth and the southern regions but disease wiped most of them out. Retreating to Qaiwain, the race struggled to survive which they did. converted by the priests of Othariss, the centaur race quickly accepted the new religion and are closely aligned with Ardonia.

FETID SWAMPS
West of Qaiwain are the Scalemen, so named because their reptilian skin and overall lizard like appearance. They seldom leave their domain as they prefer the hot tropical weather. Further west is the land known as the Fetid Swamps. The only known inhabitants there are the giant Swamp Serpents and the Swamp Trolls although the Scalemen are known to travel freely in the swamp. The swamp serpents, which can grow as long as 200 feet and 12 feet off the ground, are claimed by some to be closely related to the dragons. The only time they have been seen in East Azoth was when Thorin used them in his battle against Drohm. Since the Scalemen are the only race that are able to ride the great beasts, Thoragg forced the Scalemen to bind them into the Forever War against Darkoth by the threat of sending his un-dead army into the swamps to wipe out the isolated race. However, the rough terrain and temperature difference in the colder regions eliminated any effective military use of the Scalemen and swamp serpents and they were allowed to return to their temperate homes.

K'TULNIA
Little is known of the other regions but the great sea-master, the Epicureans, who are the only ones to have ever traveled on the far western shores reported that they saw the remains of an ancient civilization to the north of Skragg Reef and native tribesmen along the western shores. Those sightings have never been confirmed however but the legends of the mysterious, and once great empire, of K’tulnia still persist.
