LAND OF AZOTH
The land of Azoth generally goes through a cycle of four seasons which are designated as First Month, Second Month, Third Month, and Fourth Month. The seasonal changes are progressional with the Fourth Month being the time of heavy snowfall which mainly covers the center and northern regions. Southern areas seldom get snow although the temperature may occasionally drop to winter-like conditions in Fourth Month. The winterland conditions in the far north remain for a great part of the year and even Second Month which brings the warmness to central Azoth seldom brings the heat to the north for more than a few weeks. The sea circulate counterclockwise and the heated water from the Boiling Sea warms the northwest land and the force of the whirlpool propels the heated water around Skraggs Reef into the Onyz Sea. The warmed water rides along the southern coast and into the Spice Bay. Along with the heated water that flows from the volcanic lands, the Fetid Swamps and nearby areas remain at almost tropical levels year round.
The continent of Azoth is completely surrounded by water and the naming of the seas is more of ancient terms than proper geographical designations. Starting in the northeast corner and proceeding clockwise, the first great mass of water is called the Epicurean Sea. Named after the exploring race of sea travelers, the Epicureans, the sea extends the entire northern shore of East Azoth and continues down the northwest corner south until Storms Bay is reached. Storms Bay is the inlet that is suggested that the constant storms that thrash above the water are likely due to magic rather than nature. From Storms Bay south, along the coastlines of Carahill and Ardonia and including the Isles of Fantasia and Ardonus is the water known as Erabus Sea. The water west of the gulf of the Sirillian River and the Isle of Ardonus is called the Naldonian Sea and this continues along the coasts of Okoth, Olardell, and Qaiwain until it hits the swamp lands where it becomes the Onyz Sea. This sea continues along the western shore north until it reaches the island populated area known as Skraggs Reef. North of Skraggs Reef lies the great whirlpool which has caused the destruction of many ships that dared to attempt a crossing, even the Epicureans circumvent the whirlpool. Lying between the whirlpool and the western portion of the Epicurean sea is the water known as the Boiling Sea, aptly named for the active volcanoes spewing their white hot lava into the sea creating a constant barrier of smoke and steam which terrifies even the bravest of sailors.
