Night Creatures- Almost the first of the inhuman beasts to walk the
land, the Night Creatures once terrorized the land in darkness. With the ability to change
its form from human to wolf to wisp like, the creature seemed indestructible. However, a
stake or other object into his chest has proven the beast is not immortal, as did the use
of fire and standing water. It is said that once its mane is cut, it is rendered
powerless. Few, however, have gotten that close. Night Creatures often resemble normal
human or elf forms when theyre not aroused or active form. Their transformation of
the base form of ripping teeth, elongated mane, and bestial nature is a frightening sight
that can occur almost immediately. The light of day weakens them dramatically regardless
of what form theyre in and if they are in strong light too long, it can cause death.
Ogres- Enormous, powerful, lumbering mass that
would be an ominous foe if it were not for the fact that it has almost a non-existent
brain. While dangerous, the ogres are dim-witted and easily fooled. If not for traveling
in numbers, the ogres would have problems of being set upon by other races and enslaved.
Trolls- The trolls are considered one race although
there are many sub-races of the trolls. Most are unfriendly to non-related races and often
even to each other. Principal races to the trolls include the Rock Trolls which are found
in most areas through out Azoth that give them opportunity to live in
caves and other rock dwellings. The Mine Trolls are related but are hairless
and virtually blind. An offshoot of the mine trolls are the Bryzine Trolls of the northern
end of the great troll mines which run throughout the Black Mountains. Whereas the rock
trolls have the great healing ability of most troll races, the mine trolls and the Bryzine
trolls lack this ability and that is why they are often considered related. Little is
known about the Swamp Trolls which inhabit the Fetid Swamps and few have been seen but it
has been reported that it is a sizable population that lives there. The most fearsome of
all trolls are the River Trolls which are the offspring of rock trolls and orcs. With the
mass and power of the orc and an accelerated ability of healing greater than even the pure
trolls, the river trolls can almost instantly heal themselves if injured in battle. Lost
limbs will regenerate into a double of the whole being. Lucky for the other races of
Azoth, river trolls have a short life span and remain small in population.
Goblins- With a skull like face twisted into an
eternal malignant grin and sickly mottled green skin stretched over a bloated stomach, the
goblin is the most disgusting and common of the sub-creatures. Although mostly heavily
concentrated in the dark in the darklands of Drohm, there are tribes scattered between the
seas and the Black Mountains. They are nomadic creatures and will usually be encountered
in packs of five or more. They enjoy the taste of human, elven, and dwarven flesh. Limited
only by their low intelligence, goblins are fierce barbaric fighters. The leader of the
goblins is King Bonecrack who answers only to General Ramus, one of Darkoths most
able leaders.
Hobgoblins- Hobgoblins are one of the
most feared humanoid creatures in Azoth. evolved from goblins, they have a much higher
intelligence while retaining their cousins savagery and strength in battle. They are
very rare outside of Drohm and the vast majority of them have been drafted into Lord
Darkoths army. Serving only the cause of death and destruction, hobgoblins can
tolerate most any creature sharing the same goal. Hobgoblins have some martial arts
abilities and are greenish yellow with vari-colored markings around the eyes. Currently
the hobgoblin army is under the command of General Kor who holds almost the same degree of
confidence from Lord Darkoth as the human generals do.
Centaurs- Found in Qaiwain, these
beings were once thought to only to be a myth, their discovery proved otherwise. The
centaur history talks of the days when the centaurs use to roam freely throughout the
field of Azoth and the southern regions but disease wiped most of them out. Retreating to
Qaiwain, the race struggled to survive which they did. converted by the priests of
Othariss, the centaur race quickly accepted the new religion and are closely aligned with
Ardonia.
Orcs-The nomadic orcs were once the fiercest of all of the
sub-cultures and massed great armies that marched throughout the land, pillaging and
conquerin
g any village they came upon. It was only
the unity of most of the other races against the orcs that finally drove the orcs into
submission and they retreated to the Black Mountains. They have since ventured out from
the mountains and many have returned to what they consider their homeland, the Bloody
Hills just east of the Orus River. This area, west of Daath, was the site of the final
defense of the orcs after they met defeat in the Great Fields of Azoth in the last Orc
War. The orcs are petitioning to allow the Bloody Hills to be turned over to them as their
homeland and promise to stop their vileful ways but the numerous orcs all over Azoth have
given little indication that they are serious. There is a legend of a Crown of Orc-Control
which gives the possessor total control over every orc in the land. This artifact has been
lost for countless years if it indeed, ever existed. An offshoot of the orc is the
clan of orcs known as the Boarelli which possess a great deal more intelligence than the
normal orcs. Twice the size of the standard orc warrior and possessing an intellect
bordering on clever, the Boarelli are mostly residing in the are known as Orcland in the
northeast area of the Black Mountains.
